Book 900, Crocheted Bedspreads

This pattern book is a beauty.   There is no published date, but based on the threads promoted, it leans towards 1935. Note though, I've seen on other sites, suggestions of 1937 and 1940.

There are 14 patterns in the book.  All, but two, are actually crocheted squares, that are joined to become bedspreads.  It's interesting that three of the patterns are promoted as just square motifs.  This would imply that the Lily designers did not actually crochet out a complete finished spread for the photo display.   (Remember, they didn't have Photoshop!).

The book was issued as a promotion of multiple threads - Skytone Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Six Cord Mercerized Crochet Cotton and Daisy Mercerized Crochet Cotton.

The designs are classic beauties that our grandmothers (possible great grandmothers) created.   Shall we take a look?

Lace Valentine Crochet Square Pattern

Lace Valentine Bedspread Design: This is an intricate beauty of a square measuring in at 5-1/4 inches

Crochet Butterfly Bedspread Pattern

Butterfly Bows Bedspread Design.   This is a smaller square at 3-5/8 inches.   Joined, it takes on a geometric effect; and the butterfly bows name was a great choice

Filet Crochet Bedspread Pattern, Puritan Maiden

Puritan Maiden Bedspread Design.   This is a dense filet spread made of of 3 filet blocks.  One block for the border, two creating the spread motif itself.  These are large blocks, each at 9-1/2 inches.  This is the only spread that features fringe.

Crochet Bedspread pattern, Iris Square

Iris Bedspread Design:  Here's a light and airy square motif that measures just 3-1/2 inches across.   Can you see the throat of the Iris in the joined image?

Filet Crochet Bedspread Pattern, Rose Window

Rose Window Bedspread Design:  This is an easy filet crochet square.  The blocks are large - 10-3/4 inches square - forming a rose within an almost diamond with circular effect.

Crochet Bedspread Pattern, Triangles on Parade

Triangles on Parade Bedspread Design:   Another geometric choice created in 4-1/4 inch squares with added texture of popcorn stitching.

Crochet Bedspread Pattern Twinkle Star

Twinkle Star Bedspread Design:   Here we have an eight point star motif encased 6 inch octagon and joined together within a much smaller eight point star ... suggesting the 'twinkle' perhaps.

Crochet Bedspread Pattern Rosette Squares

Rosette Bedspread Design:   If you love texture in your crochet, this square certainly delivers.   The easy to crochet square is two tone and measures 5-3/4 inches.

Crochet Bedspread Pattern, Rosette Squares

Fairy Ring Bedspread Design:  This lovely flower center display on this 6-1/4 inch square is nicely bordered in changing pattern stitch.

Filet Crochet Bedspread Pattern Design

Princess Feather Bedspread Design:  This is the first pattern that is worked in bands - a combination of plain and filet crochet.   The crochet bands are actually separate medallions joined into bands, then joined to the filet crochet.

Crochet Bedspread Pattern, Jeweled Cross

Jeweled Cross Pattern Design:  At first glance at the title, I anticipated a religious cross, but no .... this is a large 'X' surrounded by ample lace work that measures 7-1/4 inches.

Motif 13 . . . . Motif 14 . . . . .  Motif 15 :   These are the three 'lone medallion' squares I mentioned earlier.   In addition to bedspreads, these motifs have great runner and cloth potentials.

And, that is it - 24 pages in all, with the back cover being the same as the front.   The Bedspread Designs in here 'are mostly' classic, with as much potential today as they were 85 years ago.

Hope you enjoyed the book review / photo journal.    Thanks for dropping by, Lorrie
