Crocheted Square. This 5 inch square is crocheted in string. It may be used to form scarfs, cloths, buffet sets and bedspreads. If desired the crochet squares may be combined with plain linen squares. Directions are given for both the crocheted and linen square, also how to join the squares to form the various articles.
This is a Mail Order pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs. This pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 5667. The newspaper description: "Crochet can be an heirloom as this lovely crochet pattern proves. What woman wouldn't enjoy crocheting these squares and then combining them to form dainty scarfs, doilies, luncheon or buffet sets! Best of all, the design is so simple that even a beginner can make it with ease".
Materials: Unbleached crochet and knitting cotton in (800 yard) skeins; No. 5 steel crochet hook
Each square requires 40 yards, making 20 squares to a skein. The single bed size bedspread requires 13 skeins and the double bed size 15 skeins. The dinner cloth requires 13 skeins, the luncheon cloth 6 skeins and the bridge cloth 3 skeins. For all other articles 2 skeins is sufficient.
