Crochet Fish Net Placemats Patterns, Ellen Bruce 61

Fish Net Mats:   This pattern gives directions to crochet the mats pictured. The pattern creates either mats or runners in sizes of your choice.  It's a very easy mesh stitch with a narrow 'V' leaf motif at the ends.

This is a Mail Order pattern, purchased through newspapers.  This pattern was marketed as Ellen Bruce 61, Needlework Bureau in 1938.  "Here is a crocheted luncheon set which fairly breathes daintiness and charm, as well as fragility and freshness. A couple hanks of inexpensive crochet cotton are all that is required to crochet a set of four place mats and a runner. The stitches are none other than the simple chain stitch coupled with a double raw of double and single crochets, so it is easy to see how little time is required to make one set of four, and if the worker is ambitious, service for eight may be made at a little extra cost.

1 skein bedspread cotton or 2 skeins luster cotton

Steel crochet hook No. 9 (American gauge) or a No. 5 Canadian or English gauge)
