Very similar to a pinwheel motif, American Thread called this one 'windmill'.  

Description

Windmill : This pattern gives instructions for crocheting the bedspread pictured. Whether you call this particular motif Windmill, Pinwheel or Whirlwind, it's a popular and quite attractive design. This one is crocheted in 6 inch blocks, lacy all around. The blocks are then joined to form a spread that will measure 72 x 1087 inches. This design is vintage 1940 from American Thread.

Materials:  American Thread Company "De Luxe" Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in Shaded or Solid Colors or White;   Steel Crochet Hook #7 or 8.  40-250 yard balls are required for spread illustrated. Each Motif measures about 6 inches. 204 large Motifs, 12 x 17, are required for entire spread.
