Jiffy Crochet Cloth: This table cloth can be made either of two strands of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton worked together, or of a single strand of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. The weight of the cotton governs the size of the cloth. Directions are given telling where to end off to make two sizes in each material. Sizes in heavy cotton are 90 and 32 inches; in medium weight cotton 56 and 21 inches, fine doilies are 40 and 15 inches.
This is a Mail Order Designs pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs. The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 2312 in 1940. The newspaper description: "This attractive 60 inch tablecloth crocheted in two strands of string matches the three sized doily set, Pattern 2215, shown some time ago. Pattern 2312 contains instructions for making cloths in varied sizes"
HEAVY CLOTHS – APPROXIMATELY 90 INCHES AND 32 INCHES IN DIAMETER: MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 90 inch cloth requires 8 (700 yard) skeins, a 32 inch cloth requires 2 skeins of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 1 steel crochet hook. For these cloths use two strands of cotton worked together, this will make a very heavy thread.
MEDIUM WEIGHT CLOTHS - APPROXIMATELY 56 INCHES AND 21 INCHES IN DIAMETER: MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 56 inch cloth requires 3 (700 yard) skeins, a 21 inch cloth requires 1 skein of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 7 steel crochet hook.
FINE DOILIES - APPROXIMATELY 40 INCHES AND 15 INCHES IN DIAMETER - MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 40 inch doily requires 12 (150 yard) balls, a 15 inch doily requires 3 balls of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 10 steel crochet hook.
