The Puritan : This pattern has instructions for crocheting the bedspread pictured. The pattern, issued in 1939 as American Thread Leaflet 80-10-39, is a block motif floral design, with long lush fringe around the three outer sides. Crocheted to Mercerized Crochet Cotton, each block measures 5 inches. Create the blocks to form a single spread as described, or add blocks to form a spread the size of your choice. The leaflet was issued as a thread promotion, it also appeared in at least two other American Thread pattern books. This particular block would also create marvelous afghan made up in knitting worsted.
- 32 Balls of American Thread Company "Puritan" Mercerized Cotton, White, Ecru or Cream or "Trojan" Crochet Cotton, White, Ecru, Cream or Beige.
- Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.

Gauge: Each Motif measures about 5 inches and 216 Motifs, (12 x 18) are required to make spread measuring about 62 x 92 inches without the 7 inch fringe.
