Doily in Crocheted Battenberg : This pattern contains detailed directions to crochet the doily shown. This prize piece of Battenberg Lace Design, in two shades, was put out by Lily Mills in 1937 in their leaflet No 1300 - part of their Daisy Mercerized Crochet Cotton Promotion. First the center motif is crocheted and to this the miles (not really) of crocheted braid is created and carefully wound into the displayed pattern. Lastly, the small and large flowers are crocheted and added. A detailed chart is included to assist with the layout. The finished piece measures 11 x 17 inches. They are lovely as a luncheon set pieces, or place mats. They are equally lovely as centerpiece doilies.
