Crocheted Square:  This pineapple crocheted square can be made of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton or Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton. When joined together the squares form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs and other articles. It can be used singly for a pillow or as a doily.   The square can be crocheted at 12 or 17 inches. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.   This pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 7478 in 1945.  The newspaper description:  "A lacy square that will catch the fancy of all who admire lovely crochet! The 12 or 16 inch square (depending upon cotton) has many uses".


  • No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 10 steel crochet hook 
  • OR unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 8 steel crochet hook.
  • Each square requires approximately 185 yards of fine cotton or 275 yards of heavy cotton.
