Star of East Medallion:  This crocheted medallion can be made either of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 20 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. When joined together the medallions form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs, pillows and other household articles. The medallion may be crocheted at 5-1/2 or 7 inches from point to point. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern, purchased through  newspapers and catalogs.  This pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 7240 in 1944.  "It's so quickly memorized, so easy and so effective in spreads, cloths, scarfs or pillows, this crocheted medallion.  The beginner's delight - the expert's pride - Star of the East Medallion".   

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Each medallion requires approximately 31 yards of fine cotton or 40 yards of heavy cotton.  

  • No. 20 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 10 steel crochet hook.
  • or unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 8 steel crochet hook.
