Martha Madison

Crochet Rag Rug Pattern, Six Geometric Designs

$3.00

Crochet Rug Pattern:   This pattern gives directions to crochet the rug pictured (and more).   This is a VERY easy pattern; crochet a simple triangle motif and join in a variety of ways with a border all the way around.  A diagram for suggested designs motifs is included.    This is a classic rag rug -- heavy rug yarn, stockings, underwear, etc.   Actual size is not stated.

This is a Mail Order pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  This pattern was marketed as Martha Madison 384-N.  "You'll find this bright rug fascinating to crochet and so very nice to use. It's easy to make in your favorite colors.

Materials:  Use RUG YARN, COTTON or WOOL RAGS, KNIT UNDERWEAR or STOCKINGS cut in strips.

  • CUT RAGS in straight strips each 3/4" wide, or bias strips 1 1/2" wide; fold straight strips in half as you work; the bias ones will curl under themselves.
  • CUT STOCKINGS in 3/4" strips, starting at top and making a continuous round and round strip to bottom; CUT KNIT UNDERWEAR in same manner, making strips narrower.
  • EACH TRIANGLE required about 1 skein of RUG YARN; choose the arrangement you wish, and buy 1 skein for each triangle--there will be enough left over to work around edge. Note: The original model was made in brown, tan and yellow; a similar group of colors, or 3 shades of any color you wish may be used.
